古居 智子（ふるい ともこ）
大阪生まれ。北海道大学卒。米国マサシューセッツ州立大学に国費留学。札幌での雑誌編集等の経験を経て、1988年からボストンを拠点にジャーナリストとして活躍後、1994年に家族と屋久島に移住。2001年ＮＰＯ法人屋久島エコ・フェスタを設立、暮らしから考える環境問題を軸に活動（2022年3月解散）。2022年5月よりNPO法人やくしま未来工房理事長に就任し、SDGsの理念に沿った屋久島の歴史、自然、人をつなげる活動を推進。同時に、日本と欧米の交流史や屋久島の歴史、文化、自然などをテーマに執筆活動を続けている。
Tomoko Furui
Born in Osaka. Graduated from Hokkaido University. Studied at Massachusetts State University in U.S.A. at national expense. After working as a magazine editor in Sapporo worked as a journalist in Boston since 1988. Moved to Yakushima with family in 1994. Established the NPO Yakushima Eco Fest and has been active focusing on environmental issues from the perspective of daily life (dissolved in March 2022). Serves as Director of NPO Yakushima Future Works since May 2022, and promote activities to connect the history, nature, and people in line with the SDGs philosophy. Writing books about Yakushima and historical events in Japan and how they relate to the western world and the present.
